Brass Festival Visitors' Survey

We were commissioned by Durham County Council to conduct 300 street interviews at a number of events taking place as part of the Brass Festival.

Face-to-face interviews were used to assess the opinions of visitors to six selected events at the Brass Festival. This included the free all day events held in the city centre at the weekend, as well as ticketed evening events held at the theatre and nearby railway museum.

The 10 minute survey assessed awareness of the Brass Festival, opinions of the events and facilities available, suitability of the event for Durham and the economic impact to Durham as a city.

Analysis of the data revealed that the event was an overwhelming success. However, it also suggested that the Brass Festival should be promoted more heavily in subsequent years, as many people had simply stumbled across it that day.
